Veneers in Mountain View, CA

Veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments available for patients with chipped, cracked or discolored teeth. Veneers can restore your smile painlessly, without the use of harsh chemical whiteners or other treatments. You will once again feel confident to flash your smile in every social situation after Dr. Cassara fits you with a custom set of dental veneers.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers Mountain ViewVeneers are a thin shell of porcelain that is custom-made to cover the front side of the patient’s teeth. For the process to begin, Dr. Cassara will remove approximately 1mm of enamel from the front of each tooth surface. An impression of the patient’s teeth is then made, in order to form a mold of the teeth. A dental laboratory will use the mold to craft the veneers, so they should be an exact fit on the patient’s teeth. Veneers are custom made to match the shape and color of the teeth, and they look completely natural when installed. In a second follow-up visit, Dr. Cassara will bond the veneers to the front of the teeth with a special type of dental cement.

Because some of the teeth’s enamel is removed, the veneer treatment is irreversible. Another thing to note is that once the veneers have been cemented in place, the color cannot be changed. The patient’s teeth may be sensitive to heat and cold for the first few days after treatment. Veneers are very strong, but they can be damaged by chewing hard substances such as ice or biting the fingernails.

  • Stain-resistant, even to foods and drinks that are prone to staining teeth (such as tea and coffee)

Caring for Porcelain Veneers

Veneers in Mountain View CAPatients should treat their porcelain veneers just as they would their regular teeth. Brushing and flossing remain just as important with veneers in place as they were before the veneers were installed. Be sure to use a non-abrasive toothpaste for daily care. During dental cleaning appointments, be sure to remind the dental hygienist that you have porcelain veneers, so they will use a non-abrasive whitener. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth at night, Dr. Cassara may recommend a nightguard to wear when you sleep, to help prevent damage to the veneers. If a veneer is ever accidentally chipped or damaged, it is usually possible to replace only the damaged one. With proper care and good oral hygiene, dental veneers can give you a beautiful smile for up to 10 years.
